Sargam Sangeet Vidyalay, Pune is a prime institute engaged in Hindustani Classical Music – Education and Promotion. Late Mrs. Varsha N. Godbole started Sargam Sangeet Vidyalay,Pune On 3rd Januray, 1983. Sargam Sangeet Vidyalay is affiliated with Bharatiya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal, Pune.
‘Sargam’ has got strong heritage of tradition of Gandharv MahaVidyalay established by Pandit Vinayakrao Patwardhan, the deciple of Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar. Lt. Mrs. Varshatai’s father was Principal of well known Gandharv MahaVidyalay and she got extensive training about how to teach, from her father Late Shri D.G.Marathe. At Present her younger brother and well known Harmonium expert Shri Pramod Marathe is the Principal of the Gandharv MahaVidyalay.
The Institute was started by Late Mrs. Varsha N.Godbole with only 3 students. Today after 32 years of continuous operation, this is the largest Institute in Pune having 20 Techers & having over 400 students.
About Management
As the Institute was growing ,Lt. Mrs. Varshatai’s uncle Pt. Anantrao Marathe and her elder daughter Mrs. Gauri Shikarpur joined her and lately Mr. Nandlal Godbole & his son Shri Vishwajeet joined them who have versatile experience of Administration. The Institute has many pioneering things to its credit and today it is known for, as the best institute in this field.
About Infrastructure
Sargam Sangeet is located in a very prime location at kothrud, Pune. Institute has six A.C. class-rooms for various activities like Vocal Classical Music, Tabla, Harmonium, Sitar and Synthesizer. Institute has a big hall for monthly concert; the hall is well-equipped with good sound- system and speakers.
Every classroom is big enough to accommodate the strength of 12 students at a time, but we allow8 to 10 students in one batch.
Sargam Sangeet Vidyalay has 22 Tabla- sets, 25 Harmoniums, 10 synthesizers, 8 Sitars, 5 Electronic Taanpuras & Tabla machines and some side rhythmical instruments.
‘Sargam’ is having over 400 students & today it is the largest institute in Pune working in the field of music. It covers the area from Deccan to Warje and from Paschima Nagari to Pashan. Alongwith presenting all the students for all the programmes. For that the staff makes lot of efforts. With a view to help weaker sections, the institute offers concession in fees to 25 students. The institute also takes special efforts in promoting the specific talent of the students in Vocal & Instrumental music. Those having good voice qualities are selected for the institute’s renowned programme ‘Indradhanu’. For this programme also the accompaniment of harmonium, tabla, synthesizer is of students only. The institute has prepared sets [study material ] for all the exam and given to students so as to avoid mistakes. We have also prepared the notations of the songs & taught to play & sing. Music is mainly based on traditions & out of 20 teachers Sargam has got 16 teachers who has got extensive training in Sargam only.
Considering the challenges ahead, the society needs mental peace and music is a strong solution for that. The Institute has taken lot of strains in establishing this major cause & are confident that Indian Arts particularly Music will be the only solution in years to come. We plan to make continuous efforts in this direction.
At the Sargam Sangeet Vidyalay, efforts are taken to prepare a pupil to gear up to the high levels in the Hindustani classical music arena, both in vocals and instruments. In this endeavor we have proposed various study levels and courses which are given beside. We prepare our students for various competitions and concerts too.
